RAW FOOD PETS
Due to the domestication process of our own food and its genetic modification, we have turned our pets into a cooked food, domesticated, species, just like ourselves.
I have three beautiful cats that have been eating raw food for 10 years. In fact, THEY were the poignant beginning to my OWN raw food journey!
It all began because my cat Crumpet, who was the age of 15, had gotten stomach caner. I had to put him down or continue to watch him suffer. The experience shook me to the core and I began to ask myself how a CAT gets stomach cancer; watching a poor helpless creature suffer because of choices I made. I started looking at the labels of the cans of purina I had been feeding him, next thing I know I am walking down the pet food isles looking at all of the canned food labels and seeing ingredients that horrified me! I felt like a crazy lady as I talked to random strangers about the cans of food they began to pick up! "It's poison, its poison!" Needless to say they scurried away from me in awe of my irrational behavior. :)
After a few months of grieving the loss of my "best friend", things started to look up as I slowly began to fall back asleep into the humdrum beat of life... one day as my boyfriend and I walked through the fair in Union Square, we talked about the possibility of rescuing a cat when we met eyes with a couple who had their little girl sitting on the dads shoulders. The father looked at us and said, "Would you like to adopt our cat?" Stunned, my boyfriend and I just looked at him as he continued to explain his situation; his daughter had become highly allergic and while they loved Hannon very much, they felt terrible about their daughters allergies. Still stunned in silence they shuffle us over to a carrier and their is Hannon... this beautiful calico with fur as soft as a rabbits! I was instantly in love! I look at my boyfriend, he rolls his eyes and laughs, as he knows I am totally hooked!
We set a date for me to go over to their home and pick Hannon up. Hannon was loved very much by this family, even the little girl who was allergic. The woman began to explain to me that Hannon was on a very special diet of organic food and vitamin supplements. In addition, she was using an all natural pine litter. As this sweet family packed up Hannon, they gave me all the tips necessary to make sure she would be loved appropriately, all of her toys, her likes and dislikes, etc etc... before I left, the woman handed me a book called The Natural Cat by Anitra Frazier. They said it would be helpful and very interesting to say the least.
And was it ever... this book, is the book that is the culprit for drawing me deeper into nutrition...
The Natural Cat speaks about our emotional relationships to our pets and how that actually clouds our judgement. I know, I was shocked too... I kept reading... I could no longer deny the truth. I did what the book suggested as it was obviously working, seeing that Hannon was was so healthy, happy, and shiny!
I went deeper, I did more... I followed the instructions and the more I did, the more I saw the contrast of all my animals past.
I began to feed Hannon more and more raw... then as I rescued more cats, I fed them the same... and then I came across a book about raw foods for humans!
LOL! What a ride!
Out of the ten years, that I have feed my animals organic, grain free, raw food, they have been free of all colds and disease. In addition, they are young in spirit with thick shiny coats of fur, muscular bodies, and agile!
Like humans, animals thrive on food in its natural state, unprocessed, free of pesticides, herbicides, hormones, coloring agents, and the list goes on and on.
Living bodies LOVE living foods!
It is very important that you transition your pets gently into a raw food lifestyle. It usually takes two full months for the complete cycle. Like us, they will go through a detoxification process. This is absolutely necessary in order to expel all of the toxins from their cooked, canned processed foods, and any medications.
You will be amazed at what you witness as they go through this journey! I have seen animals with diabetes, who are over weight, have seizures, tumors and more, completely turn around! They become vital again; full of energy! Their eyes brighten, their urine and feces lose their toxic & putrid smells! Their breath smells better.
They become alive!
The list goes on an on... Raw Food for your pets is the most OPTIMAL way of life!
